Gear help needed!

Hi everyone!

I keep noticing teams using external gear ratios of 25:1 on there robots. I have been trying to figure out how this is done; however, none of them have worked. Can someone please help? Thank you in advance.

5:1 x 5:1 = 25:1

So using teeth how would that work.

Ex. 80 tooth connected to a 60 tooth on the same shaft with 12 tooth…

(driven gear) 5 : 1
_________________5 : 1 (output gear)

I think I understand this.

I’m guessing a 12 tooth driving a 60tooth and then that again connected back to it.

5 : 1 . |
| . 5 : 1 (output)
| . | . |

This may better relay the design. 5 is driving 1 twice (those vertical lines are the axles).
