Ok so we are using a 7:1 gear ratio with high traction tires. however the traction still isn’t the best for pulling 10 pounds. Any help?
7:1 as in going really fast (84 tooth gear powered by motors and 12 tooth gear driving the wheels)? Do your wheels spin without the robot moving, like a burnout? That would indeed be an issue of too little traction, which would be fixed by either slowly ramping up motor power (try 0-127 motor power in .5 seconds), or adding weight over the wheels. I’d recommend adding weight before ramping up power.
@TerminatorTech I stand by my advice from April 11. There can be no better advice without more detailed data from YOU. What is the pull distance of the default setup? Or pull distance of any two other setups?
2.75" wheels should be better because they have more torque than the 4" wheels.
Honestly, since 10 Ib isn’t too heavy… Try no gear ratio with the 2.75 wheels…
Your motors should be able to handle it.
If I were you, I would actually try a speed ratio, like 2:1… But not go 7:1 because that’s TOO much speed and TOO little force.

You can get better traction by adding weight over the driving wheels.
A picture of your robot is worth 1000 words.
