At our last comp we talked with refs about every trophie in general and they told us you cannot get exellence if you get judges award or design. Id this true ? (Just clarifying doubts) thanks.
Yes this is very true as I found with a quick search on the forum. Check out this thread right here where there I more depth: Forum
At an event, a team can earn a performance award (IE: Champion), a skills award, and a judged award.
A team cannot earn more than one judged award so, no, they cannot win a Judges award along with an Excellence award (at the same event).
Here is the guide for awards.
Every team at an event can get 1 judged award. However, you can get multiple non judged ones. Last year at state a team got sportsmanship, skills, finals, and excellence.
That’s 2 judged awards. That should not happen!
*Sportsmanship would be counted as a voted award, needing votes/ballots to figure out the winner of that award
Oh, that may be with the new rulings. I have a friend who got excellence sportsmanship teamwork and skills in slapshot
You can get that and sportsmanship since sportsmanship is counted as a balloted award.
I’m not saying you are right or wrong, but judges do not decide the sportsmanship award. The event volunteers (refs, head refs, skills operators) create a list of teams they think would be good candidates for the award, which they submit to the judges. The sportsmanship award is categorized in “other judged awards.”
No. Please take a minute to look over the guide to judging that is linked above. Not like this is the most important thing, but if you are going to make a statement you can take a minute to be sure you are correct. Ctrl+f and type “sport.”
