Getting Update Motor error on brain

When we try to run a couple of the Ike robots, we are getting the error message, “Update needed” Then it brings up a screen with all the ports on it. How do we resolve this issue?

Hi Deborah,

The “Update Occured” screen occurs when the firmware version of a Controller, Smart Motor, or any of the sensors does not match what the Robot Brain is expecting.

We issue periodic firmware updates (usually no more frequently than once every few months) to resolve bugs or to add new features to the VEX IQ system. Sometimes these bug fixes or new features require firmware updates in multiple devices.

To resolve this issue, please go to www.vexiq.com/firmware and download and install the VEX IQ Firmware Update Utility to your Windows or Mac OSX computer. Please make sure the VEX IQ Robot Brain is disconnected from your computer until the Firmware Update Utility is finished being installed.

Once the program is installed, please connect all of your sensors and motors to your Robot Brain, then tether your Controller to your Robot Brain. Then connect the Robot Brain to your computer with the USB cable, and turn on the Robot Brain. After this is complete, you can launch the VEX IQ Firmware Update Utility. Pressing the Update All Components button will update the firmware to the latest version, one device at a time.
