Google chrome out today

I am posting using chrome which came out today. I have no opinion yet of the browser but will tell you all what I think. Here is a link to the download: Here

Bleh, it just can’t replace firefox. Plus if people actually find out that they can switch from a browser such as IE, they might see Firefox and go, well it’s just better. Although Google is pretty persuasive in this browser.

Personally, I don’t like it.

System: WinXP Home SP2, Non Admin User.

I tried it out, not impressed, for many reasons…

Starting with:

Won’t Install as Non Admin User, says “Must have Windows 2000 SP4 minimum to install” (What??!??)
So Why did I Install as a Non Admin User, because the WHOLE application installs into the "C:\Documents and Settings%CurrentUser%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome" directory, which means that if installed as an Administrator, ONLY that USER can run the application. Copying the application to the appropriate directory in the Non Admin User, it still won’t work, because I would guess of Registry Install Issues.

So, running as an Admin User, it won’t even load a simple Drupal/MySQL page that my company uses. It Reports:

“Aw Snap!”
“Something went wrong while displaying this webpage. To continue, press Reload or go to another page.”

The URL “about:blank” does seem to display a Blank Page…

You know what is killing me so much with chrome is that it is so oversimplified that it is even hard to get to my bookmarks and also there is no toolbars or header. Feels weird to me.

I will give it that it loads a little (tiny bit) faster and it is cool that the tabs are run separately (one crashes they all don’t). Also the inspect element tool is pretty cool but not necessary.

Pretty much it is interesting to play around with for today but I will not switch from firefox which I love because of all of the add-ons (such as All-in-one toolbar).

Add-ons are def. a huge reason alone to switch to Firefox. Chrome’s javascript is funky (as MarkO found out  ) and why release a modern browser that doesn’t even comply to CSS2!!! It could not pass the Acid 2 or 3 test.

If Google just meant this as a “helper to other browsers” to give features such as incognito and the 4 process thingy to show to other browsers. Why not just release the code??? Even if they can beat Firefox there’s still the problem of publicity. The only reason Firefox has not jumped to 100% of all internet users is because there are still those who don’t know about it, don’t know much about computers, are just used to IE or are derranged (no offence but to all those who use IE6, i must ask, what the heck???). Just kidding.

What makes me really angry though is that developers have to make their site work, and this is just another browser to add to the browser war.

All in all, I think this was a terrible move for Google.

Personally, I think I’ll stick to Firefox with my buttons and addons.

The biggest thing that I like about Chrome is that the UI is SO streamlined.

i honestly think that chrome is just TOO simple. and i dont really like the blue/white look, so ill be sticking to Firefox for everything.

Google Chrome doesn’t even let you enable the enhanced editor mode on THIS forum!
