New season, new worlds. Will the match fields have GPS strips at worlds? Last year I know they weren’t, but just wanted to double check they’re not from someone who would actually know, not just random teams, since I’ve been getting mixed takes.
We would really like to know this as well: are GPS strips on skills fields? practice fields? match fields?
All field elements at worlds will be new and all the fields will be the white portable competition field perimeters, which already have the GPS strips printed onto them.
I know this technically isn’t the original question, but I’m wondering about the legality of using GPS sensors during head-to-head matches. The other teams in my org seem to think it’s illegal simply because the fields are not required to have GPS tape, but T21 seems to imply that they would be legal to use. There is no direct quote, but it brings up the point that fields mush be consistent and provides GPS strips as an example. And since they will be on the fields at world’s, it might make sense for me to use it. I’m pretty sure that the answer is that it is legal, and I know this forums isn’t an official source, but I don’t have much credibility against five other teams, and being able to convince them that it is legal (which I believe it is) will help us all, so a quick confirmation that it is legal would be great. Thanks in advance!
This is non-sequitur. Here’s an analogy: if my car doesn’t have a bluetooth connection for your phone to connect, is it illegal for you to have your phone in my car?
Ask any of those five teams to cite the rule that says the GPS cannot be used. Remember, as always, the game manual gives requirements and prohibitions only, it can’t tell you everything you might do.
Although it’s nice to hear it from a team, I think it’s important we hear from an actual official who’s working on it since other teams have agreed and disagreed with that statement.
Also to @Keys yes it’s completely legal to use GPS strips in match, we had them on for states. It’s just not necessary for matches.
They are legal but not guaranteed or required to be on the field.
