Gyro detected as colour sensor?

Hi, we have a gyro sensor that when plugged into a brain is detected as a colour sensor. We had the sensor working at one point, and then we turned off the brain, turned it back on and it saw a colour sensor in the gyro port. We have switched the wire, the brain, and the gyro sensor itself has been replaced, but it is read differently each time. We are using RobotC and we have updated all of the firmware to 1.13. Please help, The PiThons

Hi Tommy,

I just replied to another similar post. Looks like we are not the only team experiencing this issue. Here is what we were able to do to get the gyro working again.

  1. Take off the gyro. 2. Plug it into port 1 of a different brain. This second brain should have nothing else plugged in. 3. Run the firmware update tool on the second brain. 4. Chances are that the firmware tool will say that the gyro needs to be updated. 5. Update the gyro firmware. 6. Move the gyro back to your robot.

If that doesn’t fix the problem, then it probably wasn’t a gyro problem to begin with, but usually it is.

Although this has been primarily a gyro issue, it has also happened with LEDs. Follow the same process for fixing grumpy LEDs.
