Half-Cuts with rotary tool?

Hey guys,

So as of now, I don't have access to a band saw nor do I have enough time for robosource to ship some halfcuts and I really need a 15 hole halfcut for my robot. Problem is, since I don't have a band saw to cut my aluminum in half vertically, can I use a rotary tool to cut my aluminum in half and has anyone tried this before? I need a good, straight halfcut.

Thanks!

If you’re good with them, you can do the cut very straight with a hack saw. Basically, it’s the same thing as using a band saw, just using muscle (though no possibility of a fence).

Most good hacksaws allow you to install the blade 90° from “normal” so you can saw down the entire length of the c-channel.

I would try a hacksaw definitely, but it is definitely possible with a rotary tool (Dremel, angle grinder…). You would just have to be really careful with the rotary tool to keep it straight.

I used an angle grinder for the 6 12.5in cuts I made for our lift.

Fix a dremel to a rig that will allow you tu push the C-channel through straight under the blade…
