Handshake After Matches

How common is it for you to have a match where your opponents walk over to your side of the field and stick their hand out for a handshake? Or do you walk over instead of them?

Do you initiate the handshake?

I’m asking because I’ve just gone to my first competition where after maybe two matches out of nine my opponents walked over to my side of the field. (That being said, another two matches ended with talks with referees about mobile goals in positive corners and stuff. And another was disputing whether a robot was possessing two mobile goals and whether a tier 1 hang counted.)

It is a sportsman like thing to do. That said, you must stay in your alliance station until the match is scored and accepted. Do not unplug your controllers etc.

While I definitely try to initiate the handshake, most teams in my region that I have competed against are nice enough to beat me to the chase. Maybe ad a 50/50 option to the poll?

I try to when I can. Sometimes their gone too fast but or certain in finals and when the match was an upset I try to.

I try to especially against good/highly respected teams in the area. I usually don’t initiate when its a blow out vs lower level teams because it can come off disrespectful.

coming from someone who’s been on both ends of your scenario, i feel like it means just as much when you got destroyed. to me, the fact that a really good team can take the time to tell my team that it was a good match (even if it wasn’t) is a really nice gesture. doesn’t take more than a couple seconds, and it means a lot if you’re just starting out.

as long as you’re not being rude about it (there was an instance at a comp i was at yesterday when a team was a pushbot with no auton and their alliance partner was making cracks about how dedicated they were, for example) i think it’s a good thing regardless of how the match went.

I do not initiate the handshake, as I am not the lead driver, but I personally shake their hands if they were a respectful team or did really well. I will also pair it with a good hearted comment on how well they did.
