Headlights For Vex?

i was thinking, and i thought it would be cool for vex to make headlights for vex. anyone agree?

its an ok idea. people can always make there own led lights

Im not sure if id use them very much because they would only be useful at night.

I voted other on this because while this would be interesting, it would be almost completely impractical. You could easily make something like this with a couple of flashlights and some markers. This would be kind of cool but it would cost a lot more to buy them than make them.

Yea the concept is rather impractical for Vex. They are meant for might and you cant really see anything else other then what is directly in front of you. It is only really useable on a square bot because if you wanted to move and additional parts on the robot you couldn’t see what was happening. We can argue forever but this ir an unrealistic and unpractical idea.

i think to actually use them u would have a camera that doesnt have night vision so you could c where u r goin at night with ur camera

A low quality camera would be nicer;)

I would be a lot cheaper to tape a little 2 AA flashlight to the camera.

Hes right it is not somethigna lot of people will buy. Who drives their Vex robots outside at night or inside in the dark?

i was reading over the posts, and i agree, headlights would be an impractical, or even useless idea, but if anybody wants to make their own, and attach them to the bot’s processor/controller, please watch polarity and voltage, you will have to use a resistor!

Polarity??? Resistor???

When I think about headlights for a small robot, incandescent bulbs come to mind, they generally don’t have a polarity and they are resistors.

Maybe I’m not young enough and I should be thinking about LEDs?

I don’t know it head lights are the right term… I would love to have some lights to use as indicator lights. Like if a limit switch is pressed a red light lights up and if not a green one does.

polarity is the posetive and negative terminals that supply power to the LED, it matters with LED’s. a resistor limits the current that goes to the LED, the current coming out of the bot’s controller is too much for one LED, so you need a resistor.

you can hook up a led to the motor’s slot
i have tried this to see if the current is too much and it isnt
even when you have the controller run that slot

i think it would be great for vex to create specialy made led’s so you could flash them or use turn signals(lol) but if you just want continous lighting then just hook the led through a mountable led holder and use in the motor port

They should have specially made leds for notification or turn signals!
I would use them ALOT!

i like ur thinking

Do you plan on driving it dow nthe street and in traffic? you guys are getting too realistic now just go buy an R/C car

No I do NOT plan driving it down on the street! I would NEVER do that! A car might run-over my robot!
I would just use signals to let people in the way of the turn I’m about to do know that they’re in the way!

or what the programmed robot is about to do:cool:
