Help for running a workshop

My school is hosting a CSF Conference this weekend and our robotics club has been asked to run a robotics workshop. I’ve been asked last second to think up a plan for us to run with on Saturday but I’m not sure what exactaly should be included. We have an activity but, we also need to somewhat teach people about robotics and robotics concepts. We’re a new team/club and should be able to know what people new to the robotics world would want to know about but so far we’re drawing blanks. We’re looking for any ideas.
Thanks in advance!

Some ideas:

  • Familiarize participants with the robot parts, and differences between similar parts (i.e. difference between motor and servo)
  • What makes a robot?
  • Maybe quick overview of programming - nothing detailed, but enough to get started with (i.e. how to drive forward and turn)
  • Basic building techniques - i.e. don’t cantilever wheels

I’ll see if I can think of some more… I need to get to sleep (competition tomorrow! :))

Thank you so much!
That really helps a lot.

also, Good luck tomorrow!!!

You might consider showing some live feed from the Worlds, which are simultaneously going on this weekend. Saturday is the finals, where the best of the best will go head-to-head. Just a reminder that FL is 3 hours ahead of CA time.

I think we were going to try but our school has internet access restricted and we don’t know the password. We’re trying to get it right now because that would be a great thing to be able to show (plus we’d be able to watch it as well!)
Thank you very much, we’ll see what we can do about that.

Some of the things we do at our workshops are on pages 2 and 3 of my blog at http://botshop.wordpress.com

Wow. Thank you so much. That really helped a lot!

Now I’m just a little worried to see who will actually be INTERESTED in robotics and who is just there because they thought they’d get to destroy something. haha
