Our team just finished building the catapult of the robot for over under. We found out that as soon as we hang bunch of rubber bands to create enough power for the catapult, two gears starts to detatch to each other. Is there any way to fix the gear mechanism? We tried to tighten all collars and screws as possible but was temporary for just a couple shots. Thank you
The reason why they are slipping is that your axles are only supported from one side. Try putting some support on the other side of them to hold them together like some c or l channel. If it still has problems after that use zipties.
Based on what I see your catapult works by moving the catapult arm down by using the stand-off attached to the gear. The reason you are having issues with gears skipping, or coming apart, is because the shafts of the gears are only supported by metal on one side, which makes them very wobbly and able to move. To solve this find some way to support the shaft with metal on the side with just the lock-collar.
Another thing that will just overall improve your entire catapult is to switch to a traditional slip gear catapult, as they are much more efficient in performance and design then the method you are currently using.
