Help me identify this material from a reveal video

I was looking at reveal videos for ideas to show my students to make better robots and came across this:

What material is attached to the black plastic backer? I can’t place it, though I am certainly not a VEX part expert. It looks very useful.

It is the VEX adhesive foam

@Mr_Nash
:smile: That’s a clip from our worlds reveal video.

The black plastic backing isABS plastic from robosource, and the foam strips are what @cmaricic and @Atlantis have linked above. Both are often overlooked materials for rookie teams, but they provide several creative utilities which metal simply cannot meet.

Good luck next season in Tower Takeover, and if you have any other questions about our robot we would be happy to answer them!

You can use window foam from a building supply store that is the same width and thickness, but is longer and cheaper.

Is that allowed, to use window foam from a building supply store? And which reveal video was that?

If you take a look at the game manual (https://link.vex.com/docs/vrc-tower-takeover/TowerTakeover-GameManual), you’ll find in rule R5(d) on page 25 of the manual (page 27 of the pdf file), which allows certain non-vex items which are identical to VEX items to be legal. Besides window foam, teams use “non vex” rubber bands, anti-slip mat, plastics, screws, spacers, and hardware (like screws and nuts).

The reveal video is in the response from Colossus in this same thread. Also, just search “Vex Reveal” on youtube to see some other great robots.

You can get supplies from third parties if they are the same as VEX parts. From page 25 of the current rulebook, (R5.d):

Any parts which are identical to legal VEX parts are permitted. For the purposes of this rule,
products which are identical in all ways except for color are permissible. It is up to inspectors to
determine whether a component is “identical” to an official VEX component.

Sorry, I forgot about that rule. I just don’t remember foam being part of the allowed non vex components.
