Help - New Coach With New Team

I am new to coaching and my whole team is brand new. We are doing VEX IQ Pitching In. We built the base according to the instructions but we can’t get any further. I have 4 kids ages 9 and 10 with no experience and I have no experience. How do we get started? I have no idea how to lead them. And they are not easily led! We don’t know how to create what we need to use the motors. We have watched a bunch of videos on the robots operating in competitions on YouTube to see how they look and what they can do but we have no idea how to actually build something. Are there any drawings or anything out there that will show us how to build separate components that we could pick and choose from and modify as we learn? Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a ton of resources on YouTube on how to build and the basics of IQ. The VEX Chanel has a ton of how to’s and explains the basics.

Also check out Kepler Electronics for more complex mechanisms when you are ready (info still applies even though he does VRC). Good luck, and I hope you have fun!

Hello Laura,

If you are looking for simple builds for students to learn concepts and ideas, I recommend looking at VEX’s Hero Bot Builds. The link here are different builds you can try:

The one recommended for this year is called Fling. The robot is able to shoot and hang and allow the team to understand concepts that would help them improve the robot even further.

If you have any further questions or concerns, that is what this forum is for
Good luck to you and your team this season!
