I am not able to ask a Q&A, and our coach is out of town until February. The robot we are building depends on whether or not this is allowed. Unless you are absolutely sure of the answer, I would only like for someone to make the Q&A about this. This is the question. “During a rapid load in a skills match, as long as a robot removes the ball, is it allowed to provide momentum to the ball to make it travel faster?”
I’d love to help you, but I was confused by the question. Can you explain some more what you are talking about. Specific things like “a robot removes the ball” removes the ball from the rapid load area? Removes the ball from the field?
“allowed to provide momentum to the ball to make it faster” Picking the ball up from a stationary position and then adding momentum means “moving it” Moving it where? Shooting it?
Better wording will help.
Of course. I hope this wording is better. “During a rapid load period of a skills match, when a ball is rapid loaded into starting zone 2, as long as the robot is the one to remove the ball from starting zone 2, is the loader allowed to provide extra momentum to the ball during the process of the roll to allow the ball to travel through the robot faster?”
I think the question is “Is rolling the ball permitted if the bot is in Starting Zone 2?”
Read this QA 2158: Further Clarification on Rapid Loading Procedures <SG5> : Robot Events and see if answers your question.
It sounds like you are on the fine edge of accidently rolling the ball out if the starting zone if you miss the robot.
Thank you for the suggestion, but that is not the question (sorry if my wording was confusing). I mean, if we meet all the criteria in the Q&A 2158, could we roll the ball at a high velocity, instead of gently rolling it?
Read this note in that section.
Note 2: Although it is not required, placing the Ball gently down onto the Field without any additional motion is highly recommended. Unorthodox strategies, such as “tossing” or “rolling” the Ball, will not receive any “benefit of the doubt” if the Head Referee cannot clearly confirm that all criteria have been met (especially clauses “B” and “D”).
So, your high speed rolling may pass, but if something bad happens (i.e. leaves the starting zone) the referee won’t cut you any slack. The current set of the rules refer to the QA 2158. So the risk of the DQ is on you.
Good luck!
