Hello, we completed the hero bot Swish accordingly, when trying to shoot/launch the ball to the target. The Catapult gear is not popping up to create enough force to shoot the ball. Instead it just slowly moving the gear to back up position. In another word, it is just moving up and down. I am not sure if this is a code issue with the VexCode, or if this is a mechanical problem with the Swish? I did check out some youtube video for the other swich bot and somehow, the gear is able to pop up for the catapult to shoot the ball. Please help.
We can help you best if you send pictures of your code, and you send pictures of the robot and the problem.
Otherwise we are just guessing!
Hard to tell for sure, but the pawl for your ratchet looks like it’s mounted backwards.
I would guess that what is happening is that the winding mechanism is not actually disengaging properly when you reverse the motors. The pawl should be preventing the motor from turning backwards and unwinding the spool, and then it builds the tension with the rubber bands without stressing your motors. It then should rapidly unspool when your reverse the winding motors and the winding assembly backs off and nothing is holding the spool in place anymore.
Note in the instructions here, the ratchet in the picture (yellow jagged “gear”) is opposite how your Swish has been built. Rebuild that part to flip the ratchet 180 and you should see the proper mechanical operation.
Thank you so much. It’s work!
We are having the same issue. Our catapult is not popping up. Here’s a picture of our robot. I will post a picture of our code in the next message.
Please help!
As @EngineerMike said, is seems your rachet is mounted backwards. The teeth should be facing towards the spool.
We fixed this and now our catapult works! Thanks so much!
I’m having the same problem! I believe my ratchet is right after reading the previous posts? Here is a picture of my robot. My code is like others that are posted here. Please help
can some one tell me where the vex example code is thank you

@Darkknightspy Make sure to not reopen very old topics with solutions, especially if the problem has been solved, which it has in this case
@Team2470Z Even though a topic may be old, it can still be found, very useful and relevant, in this case, I found this topic and used it to fix my robot like a lot of others still do. There is nothing wrong with adding my findings which also keeps this open longer for others, stop trying to be the vexforum moderator lil bro.
Lots of teams need help, more than a handful are on V1 versions and building that component when limited to 4x4 plates (vs 3x3 plates) is harder than most people think.
(Pro tip: just draw a line around the area you are going to build in, then build inside the lines)
