I noticed that Russia does have teams that could potentailly qualify for worlds but with this political and physical chaos happening between Russia and Ukraine, can we expect any teams for either of those countries this year?

Looks like there are 4 VIQC teams registered in a Russia, all around the Black Sea coast.
Last season there were some VRC teams, and I believe 2 even made it to their sub-division finals and semifinals, respectively.

While the RECF qualifying criteria says there are some VIQC spots for Russian teams, there are no events in Russia listed and no Russian teams have put up a skills score. According the RECF qualifying criteria, this means none of the teams will receive an invitation.

Yet some have competed in LRT events. Just because there are no events in your country, that does not mean you cannot compete at all

Why would there be anything wrong after all? They have no responsibility for the government, and are not representing the country of Russia. To do anything would be to deny the team members an opportunity of a lifetime.

In my own opinion, teams from either country do not represent their home country’s stance in the current situation. I don’t think that the current situation should have any bearing on teams qualifying for worlds.

Did you miss this paragraph in the qualification criteria document? RECF can make exceptions at any time and there is no published information beyond the official document.

There are IQ teams in Russia and they are competing mostly, if not only in LRT this season. I’ve seen pictures and video of their teams. The same organization also does FLL and World Skills (known in the US as SkillsUSA).

If there were Russian teams at Worlds, I would hope that everyone would be warm and welcoming to them. These are children after all, and we are united in love for the sport. By treating each other with humanity and courtesy, we may make some small contribution to world peace.

In VRC, everyone is an Engineer. And all Engineers like us want to do is have fun with modern technology
