Does anyone know how high your robot has to be for a high hang?
I’m guessing its 4 inches for a low hang and 12 inches for a high hang (Based on points), but I can’t find the actual numbers anywhere. If anyone could find the actual numbers and list the rule that would be great!
Off the ground for low hang, and above the field perimeter for high hang.
Under definitions of low and high hanging.
The new rubber things for the field affect the real height though. Old fields will have ~11.5" from mats to wall while new ones have ~12"
@Silicon That’s a good point. The rubber feet are a good thing for new teams who don’t want to cut down their field tiles to make everything fit, but it does make lifting a tad bit harder.
I’ve seen a number of cases in NBN where the 11.5" wall made all the difference in elevation. Sometimes heavier robots being lifted would kind of “sag” on the lifting platform below the 12" the lift was designed for, but since the rules stated in both NBN and Starstruck that it’s just the field perimeter, the lift was still counted.
One other unusual absence that I saw (or at least thought I saw…) in the manual was that there’s no rule against resting on the top of the perimeter. I could imagine a team bringing back Stanley Shi’s 2R self-lift from last year to make this work, since there is as of yet no requirement to be solely supported by the hang bar.
You are right!
I wonder about the legality of hovering over the outside of the playing zone. Teams may accidently swing outside of the playing area. In NBN, you had to stay in the elevation zone which was also inside the field perimeter.
I don’t see that being that big as this year there’s a structure to hang from, but last year without the field perimeter you had to rely on your partner.
Actually the field perimeter is 11.6 in. the old fields with the tabs cut off are only 11.1 in.link text
I suggest you read the definition of “supported”. I would be willing to bet that this is expanded to include high hanging robots.

Our team 8931A is a hanging bot, we just had a tourney and their hang was not counted when they were supported by something other than the hanging bar, though they did still get a low hang. I don’t know if you have already found this out but i hope it helps if you did not know already.

Yep, that post was from wayy before the season had started for us and I was still rusty on the rules If you’re touching the field perimeter, you can’t get a high hang.
