High Strength Product Release Timeline

Forum Users,

I have seen multiple people state that they are not placing orders because they are waiting for the release of updated, High Strength compatible products. However, the release timeline for many of these products is longer than most are anticipating.

We announced these updated products at VEX Worlds instead of rolling them out individually to give our users a more transparent customer experience. However, as we attempt to keep parts in-stock through the unpredictable education / competition season buying cycles, we sometimes end up with a great deal of inventory. We can’t begin selling updated products until we run out of our current stock.

The Engineering team has reviewed our sales history, and put together an estimate of when we expect to transition into each new product. This is longer than we would like, but as I mentioned, we hold a LOT of inventory on some products.

We should have provided more detail about the estimated transition for these parts when we announced them. We appreciate your understanding, and apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks for giving us this timeline. Even if it is just an estimate, it is nice to know when deciding what to buy. So don’t wait for new parts because it might be awhile and waiting to buy things will make it take longer for them to come out

I didn’t know we were getting high strength shaft compatible 12 tooth gears. Will they be just like the current ones but with a larger hole as some users have proposed? Is there a picture anywhere?

That is correct. You can find an image under the “High Strength Gears” tab on this page: http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexedr/products/accessories/motion/gears.html

Well, that sucks. Thanks for the update though.

Darn, i was waiting for those. Whatever, I’ll just get the game kit. Thanks for letting us know.

One problem I’ve had with the high strength line up was that the shaft would sometimes be under such intense loads that the shaft would turn in the gear causing the gear to round out. I would love to see a “High Strength Lock Bar” to reinforce the gear. This could also be used as the regular lock bar is used to attach axles to bars and what not.

Our team has had the same issue. We are currently trying to enlarge the holes in steel 1x3 pieces :/.

Just wondering, why does it take so long to get these into production? I get that there are a lot of people you have to talk to and just that the process in general can take a lot of time, but I’ve seen a lot of companies, small and large, design, prototype, and roll out products in just under a year. And usually those products can be a lot more complicated. Just curious to why vex products in particular seem to take much longer. Please note, I mean this in the most unoffensive way possible. If this is how long they take to produce, then so be it.

Really it’s not the roll-out time that is so long. They have to sell the current stock of products which is designed to be over a year worth of buffer. To avoid shipment delays they keep a lot of supply on hand. Drow did a really good job of explaining it actually if you read his post.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I wanted to find out if there’s been any updates to the estimated dates listed here. I know I recently ordered some High Strength Sprocket 12 Tooth (4-pack) and they came with the HS bore even though it was listed here as Q2 of 2017.

I’m specifically interested in when the 12T HS pinions will be updated; if that is still on pace or if it will be coming sooner.

Thanks!

I’m sure a little overstock discount would please many teams, and open up some space for the new products

I’m not sure what incentive VEX would have to do that. It’s not like they’re having trouble moving the older product right now.

A few of the products listed in that timeline have been ordered, and scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2017. However, they will not start shipping until the current stock has been exhausted. I unfortunately don’t have much more information that that. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi DRow,

I noticed that the picture of the High Strength Gear Kit (276-2250) now shows that the 12t HS gears are sized to fit the 1/4" shafts. Have the new 12t gears been implemented, or is this another teaser?

Thank you.

The 12 tooth pinions are high strength compatible.

On that note though, are there any updates on when the high strength sprockets are coming out?

When did you order/get these delivered with them having the high strength bore?

I ordered some a couple weeks ago and they still had the 1/8" bore.

High Strength Lock Bars are available from robosource.net , also on ebay and amazon.com!

I don’t see HS lock bars on @DRow 's list, so for now, Team Virus, partnered with Robosource, are happy to provide these parts to the VEX Community.

If I remember correctly we ordered new pinions around November.

We bought 12-tooth pinions from robotmesh on Dec 20, and still got the 1/8" square hole.

I wanted to resurrect this thread because I stumbled over a pack of Vex EDR “High Strength 12-tooth Sprockets”, P/N 276-3877, which have the hole for the High Strength shaft. What I find odd is that all the websites I’ve looked at with this part number show the smaller, 1/8" shaft in the photo. So how are people supposed to know what they will actually get when they order? The particular pack I have contains inserts, so it’s easy to accommodate the smaller shafts, but it seems to me, if we want the larger hole, it’s not clear if we will get it or not.

Anyway, I’m confused about this. Are there supposed to be different part numbers for these items?
