Does anyone know the full in-depth history of IFI and Vex Robotics overall, as a lot of the history has been hidden or not fully explained by IFI or Vex Themselves.
Welcome DrO9!
Google VEX robotics Wikipedia and your top result should be this:
I was always curious though, why did VRC split off from FIRST?
But to answer the OP question, here is some stuff I foud:
About VEX - Sales & Support - VEX Robotics.

It may take a bit of digging, but you can also piece together the history of vex from this forum!

People do strange things. Sometimes you think you are the big dog, sometimes the flea reminds you that you are not.
Is my username unique, also I am looking for how IFI got the idea of VEX and how they gained and lost their connection with FIRST
From what I understand (or heard), there was something called “FIRST VEX Competiton” (FVC) that started in 2004, but there was some disagreement and they split around 2007. FVC became the FTC (FIRST Tech Competition) and VRC (VEX Robotics Competition).
They look quite similar, and compete on the same size field. However, that is where the similarities end (legal materials and game designs {seem to follow a similar philosophy though} are different).
About your username, it’s just that usually I can trace where a person got their name from (like lacsap or 9MotorGang). However, DrO9 is not a reference to anything I know (except an O-9 pay grade in the military)
