Home-schooled Students

I had a parent approach me about their son joining my robotics club. He is a home-schooled student that lives outside the district that my club is associated to. I am wondering if it is okay to have this student in my school team? I looked in the manual and there seemed to be nothing regarding home-schooled students.

I’ll definitely be asking my administration as well, but I’m guessing they would be okay with it.

Depends on the state - here our district follows athletics guidelines - home school student must reside in the district and must registered with the school system. No non-resident or out of district members may join sports teams or robotics. We had a student move out of district, and was not permitted to be part of club after the move.

As long as the student meets the requirements listed in the definition of Student, and isn’t competing on any other team, there is nothing restricting him from being on the team.

But yes, district rules may vary.

As long as the student is only on one team, there are no restrictions or prohibitions relating to this as far as the competition rules are concerned. In Arizona homeschooled teams have been a very strong competitive force for many years.

Of course your school may have rules about outside student participation in clubs, but that’s not a question we can answer here.
