Hong Kong

So I realized I hadn’t posted anything about what I am going to be doing. I will be living in Hong Kong for the next two months working on a project as part of my degree at WPI. It obviously will be a totally different experience than I am used to. I will be available for contact in all my usual ways.

As a fun side note, does anyone know any Hong Kong VEX teams? I think it would be cool to meet up with them or attend an event if possible.

I might end up having a lot of spare time and have been considering doing long code write ups Jpearman style so PM me with any ideas for what could use some good example code. Judging by the threads recently maybe a new simple LCD code chooser would be first.

The LCD code chooser will be really helpful my team has been struggling on it for a while. Thank you very much, I’m sure it will also help out other teams as well.

Well… it is pretty near between Hong Kong and Singapore… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Griffin,
Greetings from Hong Kong. I work for VEX so I am able to introduce you some VEX teams in Hong Kong. The upcoming VEX event in HK is the Tech Challenge Game 2016 in Science Park on Feb. 11-12, 2017.
Here is link for the event info:

Let me know how to reach you when you arrive.

Ya haha. I had looked at flights out of curiosity and had found them to be pretty cheap. Like as low as 150 USD for round trip. We can pm.

Any ideas on who reach out to there?
Edit: O Franky that is super cool. I think I will totally try to attend that event.

yap, it is the biggest event in HK and you will be able to reach more than 80 teams there.

Enjoy Hong Kong, it’s an amazing experience!

So I am going to attend the event and would be happy to volunteer as well. Only issue being I only speak English. I act as Head Ref at events back home so I know all the rules. I would be happy to do any job that is possible to do in english.

most people speak english in hong kong, it used to be under the british

Obviously lol.

I still would understand if they didn’t want someone who only spoke English being the announcer …

it should be fine, most ppl use english at schools

Sorry to budge in but can someone HMU with the link to that thread?

@Anemeh18
Finally got around to making its own thread

Thanks!

Thanks for volunteering! I just spoke with the event partner and they appreciate your support. Can you please PM your HK cell to me so that I can put you in contact with the EP?

So I’m back from Hong Kong. I was able to attend the event there a couple weeks ago. 120 teams compared to last year’s 50 was a big step up. Even had a few really competitive teams.

Head reffing was interesting. I had to let a few minor violations of T01 slide because a lot of the drive teams didn’t speak fluent English. (doesn’t help that I talk fast) I was impressed to see ptc checking during inspection and never had to disqualify any teams at the event.

Also swung by the IFI office in Hong Kong to meet @franky, it’s a nice office. He took a picture and should be able to post it.

Great to see you and I hope you enjoyed this trip.

Share a picture we took at IFI Hong Kong office with you all. We welcome everyone who is interested in robotics to stop by.
