I just wanted some pointers on how I can build an X-drive. Which kind of C-channel or metal pieces do I use? where the wheels should be positioned? etc

This is a good example.
There’s also a Ri3D from this season which uses an x-drive, seen here.
Essentially you’ll want C-channel and several 45 degree steel “elbows”. These will allow you to position your wheels at 45 degree angles to your chassis.
