How can you make an arm to lift the robot for Over Under on to the poles??

Generally teams use legal vex parts, such as gears, c-channel, screws, nuts, and occasionally bearings. Some teams have opted for a PC structure but I would recommend using aluminum c-channel as it is strong and light. Make sure you abide by the “robot rules” of the game manual when building your arm.

P.S. No one in the forums is going to design a robot for you🙂

On the forum, as @Micahy321 mentioned, we won’t design your robot for you, but we would be happy to answer any specific questions your team has after conducting research and trial and error. I know many teams have asked questions about Endgame on the forum, so I encourage you to search the forum and see if it inspires your design. I also encourage using the steps of the Engineering Design Process as you make decisions on your robot in the future, and don’t miss any step. So yeah, I recommend doing some research on this topic and see if it inspires you. Then feel free to ask specific questions about this!

As @Micahy321 said, you can get ideas and inspiration from the forum, but sometimes it is best to figure out the problem yourself. If you need somewhere to start, think “What is the problem at hand?” If it is elevating onto the pole, think “How am I going to grab onto the pole? Will there be enough friction to lift my robot? Are there any better options for elevating?” Discuss questions like this with your team and come up with solutions to problems you might face. Good luck this season :wink:

You can look here for knowledge base articles for V5 - if you look under Mechanical tab there is a whole section on mechanisms. Weigh each option based on your experience and suitability for the problem you are trying to solve.

Do note, what ever solution you pick for your robot, you will need to remember that the motors are turned to coast at end of match , meaning if you require the motor alone to hold your robot in the air, it is more than likely going to fall to the ground.

Watch competition videos and see how others have approached the problem.

It is ok if your robot does not lift at end of match if you are not yet experienced at building mechanisms. Best to focus on a couple of things you do well than over extend and have a robot that performs poorly.

I do wish to point out that in Star Struck there was a hanging element end of match, one of our team figured out how to do a passive lock that worked for that game. However, in that game the could latch onto upper tube opening, in Over Under this is not an option.
