How did you spend your time during robotics sessions?

Hey everyone!
I was just wondering how (before the coronavirus pandemic) you and your team spent your time during meets. I’m trying to create an optimal schedule for when stuff starts to open up again.

  1. At the beginning of each meet, did you spend time to document stuff like your goals and how you could accomplish them? If so, how long did you spend doing it?
  • 5-10 minutes
  • 10-15 minutes
  • 15-25 minutes
  • 25-35 minutes
  • 35+ minutes
  • My team doesn’t do this

  1. After that, did you immediately jump into accomplishing your goals, or did you share what your ideas/goals were with your teammates?

Thanks for your time everyone, and stay safe!

my team does all our designing and planning outside of meets, so we can spend all our meeting time on building/programming without having to make decisions.

my team had the wonderful habit of building during entire meetings up until like one week before a tournament, and then scrambling to help the coder make auton… our coder totally loved this

also, i would suggest spending more than 15 minutes on EN if you intend on winning judged awards

Since I also help with building and do the notebook, I usually don’t have enough time to do it when my team meets. If you cannot do it at the meetings, I would suggest doing it when you get home or over the weekend. Please don’t do it on the eve of the competition.

I’m sorry, I didn’t quite get that. What do you mean by “it”?

15 minutes per meeting is perfectly reasonable.

To win awards? i would disagree. even in a non competitive state like arizona, i find myself journaling 2-3 pages for each 2-3 hour long meeting, which takes longer than 15 minutes

of course, if that is what works for your team, then you do you :+1:

The way my team does notebooking is we just build/drive the whole practice and then when everyone has to leave, we frantically scribble in a few words.

Ok, slight exaggeration.

Thank you for posting this. I did one similar to this a couple weeks ago, but this should be very helpful as well. I too am trying to make a good schedule for my team as i REALLY want to make worlds this year.

Our meeting schedule when school was in session was extremely variable, and now who knows when we’ll be able to meet in person again.

I would have honestly expected everyone to answer “forum stalker” : aren’t you stalking on the forum right now if you see this post?

and its kinda unpected that I have pretty much every role other than the programmer

I mean the notebook.

I found this really helpful to see what others are doing. The way you put the jobs of people on the team was cool. I am learning a lot. Thank you!

I almost never work on the notebook during practice. I always do it at home after practice, to save more time for building, coding, and practicing.

One thing I don’t get is how does any team not have a programmer? Or a driver? Or a builder?

My guess would be that multiple people contribute, so there isn’t a main role. We all build on our team, with no set builder.
