Hi! We have a competition next week and are currently fixing our robot. I’m working on the flywheel, which we found out isn’t working fast enough because it’s single-powered (we have two blue cartridge motors though). So I researched and found a way to fix it using a 5:1 gear ratio. However, I’m not sure how to implement it. Would you happen to have some tips? (this is also our first year doing vex)
I don’t know exactly what you mean by “implement it” but how to build it would be to put the motor on the shaft with the larger gear, and attach the flex wheel to the axle with the smaller gear and the flex wheel.
Not only is this a 7:1 ratio, not a 5:1 like the OP asked for, this is also backwards. The larger gear would go on the motor shaft and the smaller gear would be on the wheel. Please don’t post incorrect information, it only confuses people and makes it harder for them to improve their robots.
Here’s a diagram to help you visualize what you need to do.
Hey, you could use a 60 tooth gear and a 12 tooth metallic gear, connect it to a blue motor, and a high strength axle and ur flywheel would be up and running.
Thanks, this helped a lot.
this isnt what you asked but i would recommend a little less, something like 4 to 1 on 3 inch or 3 to 1 on 4
