Our robot has a chain wheel mechanism. Wheels have 16 teeth and motors have 32 teeth. What is the ideal ratio, is 16:32 suitable ?
It is your robot. Try something, test it out, evaluate, make a decision, repeat ad infinitum
That is a good start. Remember, faster is not always better. Especially if the driver cannot control it. Also, weight may slow the motors more so it might not speed it up.
There isn’t really an “ideal ratio”, which is why so many teams run different ratios. Sure 2:1 is a feasable ratio, but it’s not necessarily the one that’ll work best for you. The ideal ratio is the one you get the most points with.
Honestly, I haven’t done VEX IQ. But to be frank this should be your job to figure out. Go on youtube and do research. Look at other people’s designs. For example, via a quick search “VEX IQ” on YouTube a robot showed up with what appears to be a 32:16 chain gear ratio.
Looks definitely viable yet has a decent amount of torque with speed.
