I only spent a few days tuning our PID, but I have heard of teams spending multiple weeks tuning it to perfect it, so I was wondering if I should retune ours, and how long to spend tuning it. Also, I was wondering if anyone uses a specific metric to know when to stop tuning the PID (e.g.: settle time, accuracy, a mix of both, etc) instead of just stopping when it looks good enough (which is what I did), or even if anyone finds a tuning algorithm to be more efficient than trial and error. Thank you!

As so many people answered an hour or less or a few hours, I was wondering if that was just because of wanting to tune it quickly or just from experience. For the people that answered “An hour or less” or “A few hours”, here is another poll:

  • Lack of time/Wanting to tune quickly
  • Experience
  • Mix of both
  • Other
