How long until firmware 1.08 will need to be updated.

Several teachers I support are currently using VEX IQ kits with firmware 1.08. I noticed the modkit site states it will run with firmware 1.08 for now, but can anyone let me know how long I have to update all the kits? They are due in for a check up in about 2 weeks time, so ideally I’d upgrade the kits at that point, but if support for 1.08 is due to disappear in the next few days, I will need to sort it out sooner.

Thanks,

Niels

From the changelog it appears the only change in Firmware V1.10 is added support for the 2.4GHz Radios. Unless you need to use those my guess is you’ll be fine with V1.08 for a couple of weeks or more.

Hi Niels,

Jetro is correct that the major change is support for 2.4GHz radios but there are some smaller features we will make use of in the next release (should be released in the next week or two). When we do make the switch, the teachers can use the previous version of the editor at Modkit for Vex

That URL will stay one major release behind the live site so it should work with the 1.08 - 1.09 firmware until at least July. Hope that helps.

I like the idea that you keep an “old” version of the software available, but I’m curious as to the reason behind this. Will newer versions “break” things for older programs? Is Modkit able to detect the firmware version of an IQ Brain so it can inform the user that to be able to use a certain version the firmware needs to be updated?
