Is there a way to figure out how many rookie teams are at Worlds?
It’s a pretty amazing accomplishment!

I can’t think of any way other than just asking everyone at worlds. Teams switch numbers and letters so there’s no way to do it through RobotEvents.
To the rookies going to worlds, you should be proud of your accomplishments. You are at the largest robotics competition in the world, and that’s awesome.
I though frc is the largest?
vex worlds has been the largest since… 2018 or 2019?
and this is both by looking at the number of registered teams and also by looking at the number of teams for the worlds events.
Just out of curiosity, how is a “rookie team” defined? Because if its just “they seem kinda new” then its not quantifiable.
The strict definition would be “A team composed entirely of members who have never competed in VRC before”. Gets murky with teams with “N new people and M ‘veterans’”
Would you consider people that have competed in middle school and now compete in HS?
Example: I did VRC for 3 years in middle school and I will be competing next year
Would I be considered a rookie?
It was more of a “completely new to VRC” “Completely new to VIQ” I know that teams recycle numbers/letters (23T has had a variety of roboteers across the years). Some years they are a mix of old/new.
So if all of your team is brand new to (VIQ/VRC) AND going to to worlds congrats! Post your team info here since it doesn’t appear that Robotevents track that info.
Finding a rookie team would be hard, (you would have to are everyone on that team) Ex. last year half of my team was new to robotics and we made it to worlds 2023 however me and my friend (that was also on that team) have a decade of experience between us. So I would say we were not a rookie team, I have heard of fully rookie teams make it to worlds though but you would have to know beforehand, or ask them. If I didn’t know I would have said that they had attest 3 years of experience each. (This year they kept there team together and 3 crowned there signature event)
Rookies aren’t, rare often a team will have some number of rookies, like we have 3 but I am in my second year.
This technically doesn’t count but our team is going to Vex IQ worlds and I am the only one who has done it before. Everyone else is brand new.
oh… I was actually thinking of introducing myself as rookie when my teams go back to worlds next year. lol…
My following statement my sound like I am bragging, but I have no intention. So a couple years ago one of the teams at my school was new and I guess is considered a rookie team? so the crazy thing is that they go to worlds! and not only that but they got excellence at worlds! I mean that is just crazy. Unfortunately that is the only time my school has ever gone to worlds… and propably the most key member… went to FRC so… were bad now.
Very cool story, thanks for sharing it.
I was literally next to be invited to worlds for South carolina but barely didn’t qualify as rookie team (we got judges at states though so not too bad)
lol no. Look no further than the amount of countries VRC has teams in.
Our organization sent 5 HS teams this year, one of which had zero previous VRC experience. And we sent two MS rookie teams (we only do 8th grade MS teams, mostly).
