Curious to know how many members VRC teams have, and what number you think is ideal for a team.
I think 6 or 5, no one will be sitting beside and doing nothing.
I think 4 is a good number… Everyone will be involved and doing something. With more than 4 people I find that progress is slower…
Do you find 4 to be a bit awkward with only 3 allowed in the drive station?
Only two are allowed in the driver station in IQ, and we do just fine. I don’t know why it would be awkward to only have three in the Drivers’ Station any more than it would be to have only two take the robot to inspection.
We try to have 3-5 on each of our teams

We have max 2 in our driver station as with more than 2 people we find the driver can get distracted from 2 people giving suggestions… Like in F1 only one person talks to the driver throughout the race…
I think a good amount of people is 4-5 per team.
Last season I had 5 people on my team, one builder/driver, 1 programmers 2 notebookers and one person who didn’t do much except talk in drive team. And that worked out very well I think.
I think 3 people in vrc drive team is optimal, the way I did it was I have me as the driver, one person who is directly communicating with me, where do I go and what should I do, and the 3rd person is communicating with our alliance partner to see what they want me to do
Unfortunately since I’m doing an independent team for spin up, it’s just me and a friend, since others didn’t want to join to focus on exams next year.
(Ngl wanted to go full solo because it’d be funny to see how well I do in my region fully solo and see how many teams I can beat, but 1: idk how to program and 2: probably is helpful to have at least one more person to help in drive team, also looks better for notebook and stuff)
I think more than 5 is where it’s too many, our MS teams didn’t do as well at nationals I think because of too many people and too many opinions and stuff going on at once
I hope you aren’t talking about us lol (Hint: he is). But 8 for us is way too much, everyone feels disconnected from the bigger picture
It is very awkward because you always have to argue on who is to be on driveteam.
Why don’t you choose people on the Driveteam based off merit (of course have the Driver, then have someone who can bring things around and keep a checklist, etc).
4 is the perfect amount if you have everyone doing something. I would suggest that you have 2 people who always go on the drive team (for us it is the driver, and the programmer), and have the other 2 switch off.
For tipping point it was only 3. I dunno about this year cuz my teammates want to be on an all girls team this season (im a boy)
I would say that a 4-5 person team works best because that way everyone has a role, but usually a single person has no more than two roles so they don’t get really stressed out. Also, if you have over a 5 person team, people will start messing around a lot, and distract the people that are doing work. It would also help in interviews so that way everyone has something to say.
Well my team doesn’t understand that (I am the one that does that, yet I am never on the drive team).
We just say the best driver drives.
A “Driver” is someone who actively controls the robot using a controller. A “Driveteam Member” refers to this person or one of the two people who are standing besides him/her, and hopefully serve some purpose besides standing with the driver.
Hope they understand sooner or later.
Well I actually plan to form my own team tomorrow or Friday, so I don’t have to deal with them anymore.
