I am making a cascading lift, but I don’t know how to make it stronger. I have the base stage with two motors and two other stages. I am also using normal speed motors for torque. I tried adding rubber bands but they snap very often. It works without adding weight, but once I add the needed items, it doesn’t go fast at all! Any suggestions?
Hey Alpha
We have also made a cascading lift and we would be happy to help, do you have any pictures of your lift. Also how much weight are you trying to lift?
Maybe going shorter distances with the rubber bands? Are the motors connected directly, or do you have some gears between them and the lift? As mentioned above, pictures would help.
I have been following this prototype I found online. The only thing I changed from it is that I took away the two sprockets on the side. I put the motor on the top sprocket and another motor on the bottom sprocket.
So if x is the motor, 0 is the sprocket and the rest is the c channel it would look like:
Your in luck we built that exact same lift. If you want more power you can try doubling up the motors. That is what we did. I attached a picture of our robot below. Speaking of which, @jpearman might be able to give you a hand if he feels up to it, he is the original creator the lift that we are shamelessly stealing.
Also… Uncharted showed us these rubber bands last year. Amazon.com . They are crazy strong. I have 4 of them stretching about 80% of the full length of the slider and they don’t break.
