How to build side flaps without pneumatics

My school does not allow us to buy pneymatics so it would be helpful for someone to help me find a way

I would say there’s probably a good reason why your school isn’t letting you buy pneumatics and there may be a consequence for buying them, but if you really want:Vex kit V5 Pneumatics Kit - VEX Robotics, SMC(legacy) VRC Pneumatics Order Sheet - Google Sheets

One could make them flip up and down rather than out using a motor to do so as the force from them pusing things would not be in the same plane as their rotation or if one has another mechanism with a motor that normally spins in only one direction you could have it extend and retract the flaps cyclically, it would be fairly complex but one could figure it out, using the rotation for cyclical linear motion perhaps?

This is how we personally did our wings with motors, The motor is on one of those 90 degree angle pieces, and the bar that is “The wing” is attached to a gear which is on the axle that is spun by the motor.
