How to make protobot flip the way the tumblebot does

My teacher for robotics want us to accomplish this and if we don’t we fail the class. Any help?

Normally I don’t jump into homework assignments. But I’ll ask a few questions anyway.

  1. Protobot is the one with the arm on it?
  2. Is it supposed to run upside down or just flip itself over to become upright again?
  3. Trumblebot flips when it hits the wall, is the protoflip to do the same thing?
  4. What is your parts supply / limitations? (Motors, wheel sizes, do you have 12’ of track and the sprockets, etc.

Yes, Protobot is the one with the arm on it, it only has to flip and come upright again, no my teacher does not want us to use a wall. And he doesn’t want us to change the robot in any way and wants us to follow instructions to the exact detail.

So they want you to build an EXACT standard protobot and have it flip over.

I can think of about 1/2 dozen ways to modify the protobot hardware to make this easy. But if you can’t change the hardware configuration, your only choice is to learn some ninja driving skills to get the arm to flip you over.

Not really sure how this is an engineering project, but not my syllabus, not my class. Good luck.

I haven’t seen these robots for years but if I recall correctly, there is one major difference between the drivetrains that perhaps your teacher is trying to get you to look at.
Good luck.

Thanks for the helpful feedback, I have somehow on accident managed to get it to flip and was one of the few people to get an A+ in the class and I feel very lucky.
