Hello! I am new to VRC and I’m wondering how you make sleds or wings. Is it a purchasable material from the VEX shop or do I have to make or 3D print it myself (I’m not sure if 3D printing is legal in VRC or if it is only legal in VEX U). Thank you for any help.
Hi, and welcome to the forum! To answer your question about 3D printing in VRC, please refer to the game manual, which I have linked here: VRC Over Under Game Manual - VEX Robotics , and look at rule number R18, number 7.
I believe that I have read similar topics about making wings/sleds on the robot, so I would recommend searching the forum next time.
Hi, welcome to the vex forum! In VRC you can only 3d-print parts that are non-functional / decorational. So to make wings usually people use polycarbonate, and there is also a maximum thickness that you can use for polycarbonate which is 0.07" thick:
Then you can either manually cut the pieces out of the plastic or you can laser cut them. When manually cutting out the pieces, you can 3d-print a template which you can then draw onto the plastic using a sharpie to show you how and where to cut, me and my team did this for tipping point when we were making a x-drive, and we needed plastic gussets.
I hope this helps!
It specifies in the game manual under robot rules. Rule r18,19, and 20. You can purchase the material form robosource or straight from vex but it might be a little bit more expensive.
- Grab a 12x24 sheet of 1/16in polycarbonate from RoboSource.
- Cut out a shape roughly like this:
- Mount it to the front edge of your drive, drilling screw holes where necessary:
Thank you, this is a very good sled idea, we will use this in our robot chassis.
