How to tell the difference between aluminum and steel

I was wondering if you know how to tell the difference between steel and aluminum.

Hey Trex,

There are two easy ways to tell the difference between steel and aluminum parts.

  1. Appearance. Steel is silver and very shiny. In the attached picture steel is on top. Aluminum has a duller brushed finish. In the attached picture the aluminum is on the bottom.

  2. Weight. Aluminum is approximately 1/3 the weight of steel. As you gain more experience dealing with both steel and aluminum in the VEX system you will probably be able to tell the difference based on weight alone.
