Can anyone suggest some links on how to build a high stakes mobile goal clamp? Me and my team don’t know how and there is literally no tutorials on YT.
If you search “vex high stakes clamp explanation” you can find quite a few very detailed videos of different mogo clamps, which you can take inspiration from. You won’t find any tutorials with actual instructions, because that is not legal.
This is a great point. My team has always tried to find something about how to build a clamp. We always came up dry. This is what I learned and know works:
Suggested:
- What we have used is a 2x C-channel on the back of the base only about 1/8 of an inch about the ground. This piece is used to prop up the goal.
- With the use of another C-Channel and pistons, you can use a level-like mechanism to press down on the goal and towards the ground. I suggest two double action pistons. (Regular pistons)
- Attaching the second C-channel to a secure hinge is an affective method. This allows it to rotate open and closed.
- Attached the pistons to the desired open and closed locations. This takes time.
- The end result should have a goal fully transportable and off the ground. Makes sure to play around with the second c channel and piston locations to fit the desired angle.

You can also use pneumatics. Look at examples on Youtube.
Pits & Parts (FUN) has teams explain parts of their robot. They have some good ideas.
Please put this in v5.
Yes it is legal. Both my mentors and my coach said
G4 states that robots must represent the skill level of the team. If you exactly copy a robot mechanism, your robot is not at your team’s skill level and is a G4 violation. This goes for using instructions, exactly copying things from reveals, etc. Sometimes coaches are wrong.
