How do i make an arm for the end of the game lift? I was thinking on making something like a forklift that instead of raising the pole, it would raise the robot. My only problem is that I dont know if the clamp on the Double Reverse 4-Bar model is strong enough to keep the robot from slipping. (image included)m
Pneumatics would definitely be a better way to go. Just make sure any mechanism that you make needs to not back drive the piston here is a good example go to 4:04 for their claw explanation.
You could also go for a passive claw though like team 1496A to save air.
Just don’t use the vex claw it’s mainly for newer teams as a way to start them off and would need a lot of torque to grab and hang on the pole. Motors can be better used elsewhere on your robot.
if no pneumatics are available to you a good alternative that isn’t motors would be to make a lock that due to either side of it not being able to move would clamp you on there with as little amount of parts used
The starstruck season had a similar pole elevation end game. It was easier that season, since you could hook into the top of the pipe. However, there are solutions from that season that could still apply with modifications. Most comments I see here are thinking of more complicated mechanisms than those used that year.
Don’t invent from scratch when there methods to learn from.
For teams that do not have a game element set, the first thing you will notice is the pole is not tall. Mock up something to see what the task requires.
The BLACK dots represent the pivots.
The BLUE represents some type of claw/etc that allows the arm to grab/etc the pipe.
The GREEN represents a rubber band providing light tension.
When the arm comes FULLY down, the (2) hooks engage permanently, keeping the arm down after motor power is lost.
