If watergame was real

It actually goes back to before 2004 in FRC. It’s probably the oldest running gag in youth robotics.

would it be floating robots, or submersible robots?

Floating robots would be easier to build, even from currently VRC legal materials, because you could bend a sheet of lexan into ship’s hull and only need two motors to navigate on the water surface. If you are careful not to tip over you may not need any special water proofing of the electronics, if you are willing to take a risk.

Submersible robots, on the other hand, would be much more challenging to build. Because, not only you need to ensure full water tightness of all electronic components, but variable buoyancy and reliable depth navigation is much harder to do. Especially, if you need to go up and down multiple times and, presumably, grab and carry game objects of an unknown density.

If GDC is to create water game for real, you could bet that one of the objects will be a floating light rubber ducky, and another will be something heavy and non-buoyant like a piece of lead.

With only two pressurized air tanks it will be very challenging to dive and surface multiple times. Which, you can bet, a winning game strategy will require.

I would suggest to build a composite robot, with floating mother-ship and tethered submersible component that could accomplish any necessary underwater tasks. This way you don’t need to spend precious pressurized air supplies and just use regular motor to winch your submersible up and down.

:ship:

Edit: Also, for those, who never heard about ROV Competition before, here is an interesting article.

Because exposing kids to lead is a very smart idea

Robots that loose in the finals are dumped into the ocean.

I mean, sure, you can always make game objects out of other dense, but less toxic materials like Tungsten or Gold, but then they will be just slightly more expensive.

It all now starts to make more sense…

It’s all going according to the plan…

Step 2: Mention lead

Step 3: Point out the flaws in lead

Step 4: Back to karthik statues

Step 5: ???

Step 6: Water game

lol this is going to confuse people so much.
lets tone it down on the spam a little, don’t want drow to smite us.

Yes, let’s please.

I’ve shared my ideas for a non-wet water game we could actually do on other threads, so I won’t spam it here. (Grouping differently sized game elements to emulate H2O)

Realistically, soft game pieces filled with water might be cool. They would be heavy and hard to pick up.

Knowing Vex it would probably be like a game of pong where you have to float balls across the middle of the field, and the bots are on raised platforms, think the platforms from turning point.

OKay. 8 months later. please don’t revive these old threads. @DRow lock? Water game is dead and there is no reason to revive it.

What you just said @RNA was utterly inappropriate.

Water Game is our dream!

Don’t you dare to kill the dream of multiple vex generations!
