INFO LEAK 2017 GAME?

Ya, I mean a literal parking bonus, a ramp or something.

Everyone is talking about the ball pattern, but I think that they will throw us a loop and stray away from balls this next year

I would to love to see a return to ramps. That was my 2nd ever robotics game played, Elevation. The ramp was the sight of many battles back then. And that large bonus cube.

What if the GDC completely copied a previous game, like Elevation?

With new 393 motors, and the raised 12 motor limit, how would the already fully-explored (I presume) meta change?

That would be absolutely awful.

10 cubes per second hype?

For many years, the game reveal was on Saturday night. They then changed it to Friday. Just returning to the roots, I guess.

Ugg, moving that ramp around from the storage closet to play was a pain. As was hauling it from event to event. It’s interesting to think back on that game an how much robots have improved since then.

I’m hoping that the 2017-18 game is easy to transport from event to event. The fence this year was pretty good, the stars were a pain. Big rubber bands took care of the cubes. So I could just get everything into my car. Assembly wasn’t fun with the bases, but once you figure out the system it was OK.

Much better than the huge ladder to climb and the huge wall from prior years.

I am hoping that the objects will be a little more durable than previous years. We have had a ridiculous number of stars break this season.

I think the only time we have ever had durable objects was when everything was hard plastic. Then again, even skyrise sections, bases, and autoloaders broke

Introducing the 2018-2019 Vex Robotics Competition Game, Chicken.

Chicken is played in a 12 foot by 12 foot kiddie pool which is filled three feet deep with water. The game is played by two opposing alliances both starting on either side with one preload, a small handgun. Within the first 30 seconds one of the robots must equip the handgun and climb atop their alliance’s robot and prepare for battle! When the buzzer sounds each alliance will advance to the floatey rope barrier across the center of the pool and attempt to knock the other alliance off their partners bot, or topple the opposing alliance entirely. Bonus points are awarded to teams who can bury a bullet in one of their opponents cortexes.

I thought that Nothing But Net was pretty solid in my opinion. We rarely had balls break. The only problem were the nets, as the corners would sometimes break and we would need to tape them back together.

In my personal opinion, we shouldn’t be caring about a new game in 2017. Why don’t we just stay focused in the game we are in currently before it ends? How about spending your time on improving your robot for regionals nationals, and maybe worlds instead of thinking of what’s going to happen in the future? If you didn’t qualify for regionals/nationals, why not focus on looking at others robots and study how they are able to make it so far, in order to improve your knowledge for what possibilities you can have? Anyways, why should we care even though most great designs come about a week to a month after the reveal? If there were a great design after a week of a month after you built your robot, you just wasted some good amount of time, and then you will waste more time taking your robot apart…

exactly- nets broke all the time

I remember at one competition we went to, the nets broke mid match pretty much every match, and the referees had to hold up the nets themselves to keep them from collapsing, which I think is even worse than breaking stars, especially because the nets ran at ~$80, iirc.

Or you’re winning a match then the net breaks and your opponent demands a rematch. Then you lose the rematch. Grrrr.

I’d like to see movable goals again, like round-up.

I personally want another shooting game, speed ratios are much more fun than torque

Moveable goals would be nice. I’d like to see defensive play, something I saw very little of in the 3 years I’ve been doing VEX.

Movable goals would be very cool.
