Intake Questions (10863A)

Hi, Jamil from 10863A here. Just wodnering what everyones opinions are on intakes for the currnt vex game. I’ve done tons of research and I’ve found a pretty good and efficient intake for my team (the sprocket roller intake), but I’m just wodnering what everyones thoughts were on effective intakes.

In my opinion I prefer flex wheel rollers, as they can usually perform just as well, but pose very little risk of entanglement with anything, which makes it safer. Although, this comes with the downside of it being heavier. I have seen many robots that use either type, and overall they perform pretty well.

Hi! My team has had a lot of experience with a sprocket roller intake, and it’s worked pretty well for us mostly because the space between the rubber bands pulls the tri ball in quicker. Adding anti slip may also help your intake, but it didn’t really for us. As @Entropy mentioned rubber bands may get entangled, but that hasn’t happened to us so far. Flex wheel rollers also seem like a great option, but not all teams will have access to flex wheels or the special inserts for them.

@Robot101 You mentioned using special inserts for flex wheels. When my team uses them on an axle we just stretch them a little bit and use the normal motor inserts as substitutes for the special inserts.

I’m using a sprocket roller with rubber bands covered in the non-slip mat. It has grip as good rubber bands and the compression is good too. It won’t get tangled with other robots, but it rips if you run into a sharp edge. 100% recommend.

We also do something similar actually since we don’t have the inserts (I’ve just seen other teams have them). For the 1.625" flex wheels we just put pinions inside of it and it worked fine. Still, if the flex wheels had been 60A or something then it would be much harder to do that.
