Intake to Conveyor or Direct Conveyor

I’m preparing for my first competition and trying to decide between an intake + Conveyor ring collection method like this or if I should do a direct ring hook like this. I have space for either one but idk if one would be better than the other in both ease and efficiency/effectiveness.

So, this is just from what ive seen, but it seems the meta is going in a direction that favors the flex wheel roller first stages.

I would highly recommend a flex wheel intake that sticks out some because it will allow you to get the corner rings where a direct hook would fail. Also it is a lot more efficient.

If I end up not having enough time before the competition would having a funnel for the rings into the direct conveyor hook mechanism allow it to be more effective or would it likely just cause a clog. I’ll still likely have the roller intake just thinking about options

Personally I really like this hybrid concept by JHAWK (9 Motor Gang) that is basically a floor hook pickup with a deployable roller set to make the intaking more smooth. I personally am going for something like this

We did the floor hook/direct conveyor. It’s not nearly as fast as an intake and you need a distance sensor to make it work. It is pretty easy to build though. If you do it, use bent polycarb hooks, DO NOT try and make it out of metal, it is much harder than it seems. This robot is really good inspiration for the direct conveyor.
