iPad to Brain issues

Hello, I have a quick question about iPad to Brain communication issue with VEX IQ. We can connect the brain to the iPad. No problem there. The problem exists when we try to send code to the brain. It takes forever and then it might look like it went through. Then it won’t execute the code (if it shows up in a slot).

Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

I use v5 but I had the same problem, there is really no changing how slow the upload is, and the fact that it don’t execute sometimes I dont know about. However I stoped using iPads for coding, I’ve had an entire program delete off of my iPad for no apparent reason and overall just a terrible device to code with.

Hi Jason, welcome to the forum.

Need to ask some questions first

  1. What kind of IQ robot brain (V1 black and white screen, V2 Color Screen)
  2. Are you up to date on the VEXOS for that brain? See this page to get the right software.
  3. What programming tool are you using on the iPad?
  4. Have you tried a different cable? Oddly I’ve found that the cheaper iPad cables have data issues.

Let us know and we’ll answer back.

Thank you so much for your response. Everything is up to date. We are using the VEXCode app and trying to send via Bluetooth.

Ok, I’m assuming that you are following the instructions here.

Are there any other iPads that are connected or trying to connect to that brain?

Are you seeing the progress bar? Does it complete or just hang?

Have you tried doing the download in a less noisy bluetooth environment? With a dozen brains and iPads sometimes the bluetooth signals can get interference.

There is only one iPad to brain attempt occurring. Sometimes we see the bar, sometimes it hangs. Finally, the most we have had was three robots and three iPads going at the same time. Not sure if that is enough to cause “noise” or not.

Thank you so much.

Not seeing the progress bar is not good, you should see it, even if it’s very briefly.

Three iPad/brain wouldn’t be too many.

I would try reloading the brain firmware, ( see the link in my first post)

After that I’d suggest calling VEX on the phone and talking to support to see if they can help you.

When they do, can you post back what the fix was.

You can also try downloading wirelessly, and when it fails, use the feedback submission (and include diagnostic information) and we can take a look at what the issue might be.

Make sure that your IQ Brain is fully up to date (radios, controllers, etc.) and that you’re using the latest VEXcode IQ as well.

I will give that a shot ASAP. Thank you.

Will do ASAP. Thank you so much.

All of our attempts have been wireless. We got an error code about the Cloud Compiler and are trying to figure out if it is a network issue.

Thank you again.

The latest version of VEXcode IQ has moved to ports 443 for cloud compiler communications, so hopefully you won’t have issues - but you can share the above KB article with your IT team for assistance.

Is the message that it can’t connect to the cloud compiler?

That may have to do with a firewall issue at your school. The VEX software used to use a weird port that most schools would block. There is a new version of the coding software that uses port 80/443 that should be acceptable to your network team.

Download the new version of the coding software and give that a try.
