Our Clutch is falling apart at the lower connections and the wheel is falling off. We have rebuilt it twice with high attention to detail. How can we fix this? We are going to a competition soon and we are beside ourselves.
Can you share some pictures? When my daughter’s team built flex during summer camp, after it was done the first improvement was to strengthen and stabilize the wheelbase. We would frame the wheels between two beams with the shafts spanning the beams (wheel sits on the shaft). Here’s a picture from my son’s team’s robot. In the picture you can see the 2 green beams with the wheel in the middle
Yes, frame the wheels by putting a beam on the outside of the wheels like in the picture. You will need shafts that can go across the new outside beam. This way the wheel and shaft sits on the current inside beam and the new outside beam. You will need to use a horizontal beam (the purple beam in the picture) on the front or back to lock the 2 wheelbase beams (the green beams).
BTW, the beams used in the clutch build are too short. You will need to switch the inside and outside beams to ones that are longer than the wheels.
