Is a 4 motor 450 rpm drive reccomended

I don’t want to come off as mean, but this sort of language is not what RECF programs are about.

Remember that all inventions/innovations were once a weird idea. Think about the idea of sending audio messages in the form of electric zaps over a thousand mile wire held 20 feet off the ground by wooden stakes driven into the ground. If someone would have asked me to help with that, I would have laughed.

Well, that’s my forum rant for today. Take it as you will.

I understand your point, but every design has a “ceiling”. With 4 motor drive your ceiling is pretty low. Even if you have an amazing worlds level mech that uses 4 motors, it’s not just that fact that it uses 4 motors, it’s going to be heavy.

Having to rebuild because your drivetrain overheats, doesn’t have enough speed, or doesn’t have enough torque is one of the worst experiences because it can be avoided by a design change. If the person running 4m drive thinks they can do it, then go for it. I personally (and I’m assuming everyone else because <90% of teams ran 6 motor drive at mall) doesn’t think it’s possible, but props to anyone that can.

Mush slower than list and there isn’t any point to allocate that many motors to the drive. Much faster and you’ll burn out the motors and have poor acceleration.

I remembered that @Gigabyte gotta use motor for their mogo clamp as they got no access to pneumatics yet (correct me if I’m wrong). Only 22w for all of the other compartments is insane.

You are correct @Bimnaga3 plus I gotta have a way to score on the wall stakes. In my region early season and mid season 4 motor should be fine

6m drive with a motor dedicated to a goal clamp is perfectly reasonable to pull off. 11W is plenty of power for hooks or a conveyor

Why do you think you need to be able to score wall stakes? Neither of the MOA champions had to have a way to score wall stakes. I’ve seen a fair amount of Oklahoma High School matches and it won’t be well into the season until they get matches on the same levels at Moa finals. Unless middle school is way more competitive than what I would expect, you won’t ever see levels on par with Moa finals gameplay.

IMO wall stakes server a very similar role to rings in TiP. They can safely be ignored at lover levels of play and will never be enough to win a match on your own. Controlling mobile goals will always be more important (both in TiP and HSt). Only once all of the goals were controlled in TiP would teams actually go for rings. I don’t except to see wall stakes needed until teams are all capable of filling all the mobile goals in about ~1 minute. At that point all there is left to do is wall stakes, in which case they become viable.

I asked my teacher if I could build a 6 motor drive and she said not until mid season :frowning: so that puts the end to that debate until December. She wants to see how we would do at our first tounament
