My team has decided to go with clamping the corner but I was just wondering what other teams think is better. What are the positives of grabbing either side.
In my experience, there aren’t too many real differences. We used a corner clamp for the first 3 of our competitions and then switched over to a flat edge clamp for our fourth, and it doesn’t make much of a difference.
The flat edge is better. It’s easier to make the clamp flat and the goals are so hard to line up with the corner. I tried a corner clamp at first but the goals just turn to the flat side when you drive into them, so it didn’t really work.
we have a clamp that can do both. and that is the best option I think. however I think corner is better. we ran with flat for the first competition and did not like it. and in our testing we found that about 80 percent of the time we clamp on the corner with our current clamp that does both.
Realistically it would be best to be able to clamp from any angle, that way it doesnt matter how the goal is grabbed. However, clamps like this are much harder to build and tune(at least in my experience) which is why my team and I decided to built a clamp for the flat edge, simply because we found that is easier to align the mogos within the clamp this way. It really just depends on personal preference though🤷‍♂️ I’ve seen both used effectivly in competitions
