Is it legal to build a workbench with a 8 motor drive train and do repairs ‘at the field’?
For what purpose exactly…? Generally it’ll work best for you if you get your repairs done before you get to the field (it saves time for everyone), and if for some reason you do need to try to fix something at the field before you start, I’m still not sure why you would need a full work bench, especially one built out of VEX parts. Clarification please?
I have seen people build custom “robot stands” that hold the robot off of the floor / table so that the drive base can be checked out without the robot driving all over the place.
I heard “folk lore” that a team built one that bolted to the frame and in the shipping box, the “robot stand” was then attached to the floor of the box to keep things from moving around.
As an EP, I’m not really happy with all sorts of carts / workbenches / etc. cluttering up my queue line and space around the field.
I have seen teams use the Robosource case with wheels and the handles to bring their robot, controllers, extra battery packs from the pit to the field
On the “can I build a motorized work bench and receive accolades and envy stares from other teams” ? Sure, go for it. But again, I’m not going to be thrilled with a remote controlled case wandering around in the crowded pits, queue lines, etc. I may snag you on the G3 rule of “use common sense”.
I have never heard of this before. But, I think that you would have to pay for it with your own money but not positive. But do you also have to get that inspected too is another concern to think about. Along with the fact that you are losing valuable parts and motors that you could’ve used to improve your robot with the overall look and functionality.
I agree, I with this because you are
- Doing something while waiting for your next tournament
- It just reduces a lot of stress just doing at the field.
