Is long intake worth it for rapid relay skills?

We have a 3:1 gear ratio for our bot. When we tried adding our long intake, we don’t have enough torque to control the bot. Is it worth it to remove it? When connecting it to our intake its still pretty slow despite a 5:1 and two motors. Can we do without it?

What do you want to score in skills is the first question? Yes you can do it without it but you will not score nearly as much. If there is anyway possible I would recommend switching to 2m drive 4m intake (or best case 3m/3m). You can tune a long roller on a 2 motor with an octagon roller (I used to have a 2 motor one that could score 456 driver pre-rolling ban, however I wasn’t throwing like 6699B or other teams it was mostly the intake.) If you want to do 2 motor long roller then just tune intake/ long roller A LOT. Minimum 10:1 Long roller and probably 7.5:1 intake.

We are not using this intake, we tried, but we had the same problem. All I can say is that if you have 3 intake rollers on the front, try to switch it to 2 if you can. This puts less pressure on the motors and it is basically one less roller to spin. Then you can try the intake add on.

Try to test it. Time how long the ball takes to get into the goal with or without long intake. Whichever is faster you can use. My team uses a long intake, but we have a 4 motor intake so that is different than what you might be doing. Since you have the intake at only 3:1, I think that a long intake would work great.

Drivetrain is 3:1, which is why we havee the torque problem.
