A good question. One of the challenges is that VAIC encourages “crossover teams”, where teams from VRC and VEXU also compete in VAIC, potentially with the same robots even. Therefore the challenge with running VAIC worlds at the same time as VRC and VEXU worlds is that VAIC teams may end up with 2 matches at the same time for the same robot, which doesn’t work. One potential option could be to run VAIC worlds during VIQRC worlds, but that may become quickly untenable as VAIC (hopefully) grows. So, I understand why the choice was made to separate VAIC worlds from the main Worlds temporally this year.

From an outside North America VEXU perspective it’s a non-starter funding 2x travel for double “worlds” so it’s pick one rather than crossover. Guess we’ll wait and see what the VAIC team numbers are this season and if crossover teams exist outside NA.
