Joystick AC Adapter

Hi. Does anyone know how the Joystick AC Adapter works? Does the power switch have to be off? Can alkaline batteries still be in the Joystick with the adapter plugged in?

I have never used one before, so I figured I would ask people who have.

It supplies 5V to power the joystick.

If the power switch is ON then internal batteries will be used if they are installed. Set the switch to OFF to force use of the power adapter.

Yes.

question … anybody taken apart the cable to the controller, so you know which pins supplies voltage, as i plan on making my own version that runs of a USB battery pack (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0063AAIRG/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers) … that i already own, and help would be appreciated, if not just gonna do a bit of testing

I do not know which are the correct pins, sorry.
With an electrical tester you might be able to figure out which pins are which. I do not suggest trial-and-error. You wouldn’t want to fry a $150 joystick.

Search is your friend.

It’s the same as the programming port on a PIC.](“https://vexforum.com/t/vexnet-joystick-port-pinouts/18086/1”)

cheers, exactly what i was looking for

You can check the legality of this, it uses VEX 7.2 volt batteries. The regulator came off of eBay and the cable was cut off of a VEX AC adapter. It was adjusted to 5 volts exactly and then a dab of epoxy was dripped on the adjustment screw to keep it at 5 volts.
